Who is Quentin Blake?
Sir Quentin Blake is one of Britain's most celebrated illustrators and has illustrated more than 500 booksduring his remarkable career. He is perhaps best known for bringing many of Roald Dahl'sunforgettable characters to life, including Matilda, The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits.
His instantly recognisable style is full of movement, humour and energy. Rather than aiming for perfectly neat drawings, Quentin's illustrations celebrate spontaneity, character and expression. His loose pen lines and light washes of watercolour have inspired generations of artists and illustrators around the world.
A few fascinating facts about Quentin Blake:
- His first illustrations were published when he was just 16 years old.
- He has illustrated over 500 books throughout his career.
- He was the very first Children's Laureate in the UK.
- He taught illustration for more than 20 years at the Royal College of Art.
- Even in his nineties, he continues to draw every day and remains passionate about encouraging creativity.
