Meet Helen, Artist - Founder - Teacher, Create Art School

Past

I studied Art History and Italian at university before spending 15 years teaching art in secondary schools. After having my two daughters, I decided it was time for a change and to follow my dream of creating my own art school.

Present

Since starting Create! in 2017, I’ve helped hundreds of adults and children discover their creativity. Today I teach art classes from my studio in West Bridgford, Nottingham, as well as helping people learn art online.

Future

Create! continues to grow and evolve, but my aim remains simple: to help more people make time for creativity, learn new skills, build confidence and experience the joy of making beautiful art.

Hi, I’m Helen

I’m Helen, an artist, experienced art teacher and the founder of Create! Art School in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

I’m passionate about helping adults and children discover their creativity, learn new art skills and experience the joy of making something themselves. Through my in-person art classes in Nottingham and online art classes, I teach drawing, painting, watercolour, acrylics, mixed media and lots more in a friendly, relaxed and supportive way.

I spent 15 years teaching art in secondary schools before starting Create! Art School in 2017. What began as classes in my purpose-built home art studio has grown into a thriving creative community, with adult art classes, children’s art classes, art workshops, online art courses and the Create! Art Hub online membership.

I know that trying something creative can feel daunting, especially if you haven’t made art since school or believe you’re “not artistic”. My classes are designed to take that pressure away. I’ll guide you step-by-step, help you build confidence and encourage you to experiment, relax and enjoy the process.

For me, art is about far more than producing a finished picture. It’s time away from busy lives and screens; a chance to slow down, use your hands, meet other people and do something purely because you enjoy it.
