9 Years of Create! Art School – A Journey of Creativity, Confidence & Community
May 13, 2026Nine years ago, I started Create! Art School with a very simple idea…
To make art feel accessible, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
At the time, I didn’t have a grand plan. I just knew how much I loved teaching and how powerful creativity can be when people are given the space to explore it without pressure.
What began as a small idea has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of.
Create has become a thriving, supportive art community, offering studio classes, workshops, children’s sessions, online learning and the Create Art Hub. But more than anything, it’s become a place where people feel comfortable to just give it a go.
Over the years, I’ve met hundreds of people who have come to a class feeling unsure, often saying, “I can’t draw.”
And I’ve watched that belief slowly change.
With a bit of guidance, encouragement and time, something shifts. People start to relax, enjoy the process, and surprise themselves with what they can create.
Those moments never get old.
For me, art has always been about more than just learning techniques.
It’s about taking time out for yourself.
Slowing things down.
Switching off from the noise of everyday life.
And giving yourself permission to be creative without judgement.
Some of my favourite memories are the simplest ones… paint-splattered studio days, quiet moments of focus, laughter around the table, and seeing people light up when they realise what they’re capable of.
In more recent years, Create has grown beyond the studio too.
Through online workshops and the Create Art Hub and face to face art workshops and classes in West Bridgford, I’ve been able to connect with people far beyond my local area, bringing that same sense of calm, creativity and community into people’s homes and lives.
It’s been such a joy to see this little creative space grow in ways I never imagined.
As Create! Art School turns 9, I just want to say thank you.
Thank you to everyone who has joined a class, come to a workshop, painted along online, or simply supported what I do. You’ve all played a part in shaping Create into what it is today.
It really does mean so much.
And the lovely thing is… I still feel like we’re just getting started.
There’s so much more creativity ahead, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Helen x 💛
