Blog: Amazing, courageous, wonderful women.

2021 frida kahlo international womens day Mar 07, 2021

I'm astounded constantly by the resilience and bravery of the women around me! Restrictions on daily life over the last year, has really effected women in so many ways.

Women have been coping with the most challenging of things in the most difficult of circumstances from breakdowns in relationships, to cancer, and bereavement.

It just amazes me the, the  degree of toughness that comes from these incredible ladies.  They are gritting their teeth and getting through.

Some have come through the worst. Some are still battling through.  They are dealing with all this stuff, they remain present, they continue with their lives.….and that's amazing.

Amazing women who have just continued on through adversity…..

It’s been a constant juggle dealing with: demands of the family; homeschool; their own lives and careers; lonliness and isolation; fear; claustrophobia; missing friends, family and the usual support networks; trying to stay active physically and mentally; trying to stay sane…but have had no choice but to power on through.

For International Women's Day, wanted to support a charity for women…. It's amazing charity, local to me in Nottingham called Juno Women's Aid. It supports women and helps them live free from domestic abuse.

I’m holding a special Frida Kahlo art event, 1-2 Monday 8th March 2021, to raise some money for this fantastic cause. You can book your place here.

Frida is the perfect partner in this project because from an early age, she had to fight.

She contracted polio and was confined to her bed for much of her early life. Her coping mechanism was art and she used it to express herself, her fears and frustrations and find some peace.

There’s something so therapeutic about art and creating it. We’ve found a lot of almost meditative power in art over the last year. Groups of women getting together and making some art together, allowing ourselves some time out from real life.

So Happy International Women's Day, and whatever you are going through….you are amazing!
