I have a pair of sisters in my watercolour class, Lucy and Melanie. They are constantly astounding us with their amazing watercolour paintings.

They both live in different places, but they also meet up at the weekend on Zoom. And they sit and paint, and they create these beautiful artworks. Everyone says “oh how did you do that?”

Well, they're both very talented, but they also practice, and they keep a commitment to creating that art….every week….for just a couple of hours.

I have another pair of sisters who I've recently met, Penny and Shannon. They also get together every week in my drawing class to draw from different ends of the country and have been doing my lockdown ‘Zoom’ art classes together.

And what's wonderful is they are both creating art….and it’s bringing them joy and togetherness….and neither had picked up a paintbrush since school!

They have very different styles but they both really appreciate what the other one's done. And are so encouraging to each other and it's just so wonderful to see that happening.

When I asked both pairs of sisters for a photograph of them together, Shannon laughed and said she hadn’t got one that was less than 30 years old, so she painted a portrait of her and Penny, and Penny created this drawing. The power and confidence that art can give you.

So the question is….do you have someone who you can buddy up with? Who can keep a regular art ‘date’ with every week? Just meet up and do something creative either physically in the same room or online…..

If you commit time to do something artistic you'll start seeing the results.  Not only will your confidence in drawing and painting improve but your skills will improve. And it's just the repetition that helps…. practice, practice, practice makes you better at doing it. And not only that, you can meet like-minded, supportive people too!

And if you don’t have your own creative partner….pick me!

A lot of people find that with my art classes, they have a ‘date’ with art every week.

Come and meet the lovely and supportive group of people who attend my art classes in studio, on Zoom and on Facebook live.

If you don’t believe me, join my Facebook Art Club and when you post a picture you will get lots of support and encouragement.

See you soon
