I am a firm believer that anyone can learn to draw if they give themselves a little bit of time and are prepared to give it a go. 

My classes are designed to be accessible for everyone, from complete beginners and upwards.

I also welcome lots of people back into art, who have taken a break or who need a bit of their confidence rebuilding. 

I like everyone to have a great experience so I always give tons of useful info to you during the class. 

Create! is based in a beautiful studio in a leafy suburb of Nottingham. We are in a residential area so please be mindful of our neighbours when parking, arriving and leaving the studio. 

West Park is just across the Loughborough Road which has a large carpark so it's handy to park here and make the short 2 min walk to the studio.

My classes start from as little as FREE /£1 up to £100 for a course of a number of sessions. 

For Drawing: 

You will need a few basic drawing kit consisting of: pencil, sharpener, rubber, ruler, pen

I will outline exactly which materials you need for each class, but the kind of materials we use are: 

• 2B pencil
• Pens (Biro is fine for waterproof pen, or something like a Edding Fineliner is perfect for water-soluble work)
• Watercolour pencils (which you can also use as a colour pencil) plus brush and waterpot
• Oil pastels
• Chalk Pastels
• Ink and dippy (nib) pens

You can buy a pack of materials from my art shop.  

For general painting classes I use 4 key materials: 

• Watercolours
• Gouache
• Acrylic
• Ink (I use a mixture of acrylic ink and drawing/Indian ink)

You will also need brushes (I find a 10,6,0 are a perfect range), a waterpot, kitchen roll, a board to tape your work to, masking tape.  

I work mainly with groups. 

I do teach private lessons at £60 p/h for individual tuition by prior arrangement. 

I offer a discounted rate to book a block of sessions. I feel that these are more beneficial for you as you are building up your skills and confidence over a number of weeks. I do however offer a pay as you go rate if you are only able to attend a couple of classes in a block due to holiday etc. These are by individual arrangement only depending on availability. 

If you think you may have the coronavirus: you have a temperature, loss of taste, sore throat..or you have been in contact with someone with the virus. Please stay at home and contact the NHS for a test. Many of our courses are available online so we can offer you the online version or an online alternative if you are asked to self isolate. 

If you are unable to attend your face to face or online class, please let Create know. 

If you are attending a studio class, we are sorry but we cannot offer credits or refunds.

If there is an online portion of the class you will be able to watch the video of the class via our online course section.

Please wait 24 hours to allow the video to be processed.  

If there is no online alternative, you will have to miss the class. No refunds or credits are available.

If you decide to join part way through the block or you would like a taster  session, Helen will ask you to make a payment directly to Create! West Bridgford Ltd bank account for the pro rata amount. 

Our Live weekly taught online courses are accessible via zoom. 

Our free classes are delivered mostly via Facebook live in our Create! art club. 

Prior to the class you will need to look at the content for that session, so you can gather the materials you need and print any resources you may wish to reference. 

I run a mixture of online and in person classes. I also have a range of video courses which you can take whenever and wherever you like.

Personally I teach mainly fine art: Painting, Drawing  and skills associated with that, like perspective, figure drawing, landscape, colour etc. I also like a bit of whats called “mixed media” which literally means using materials together to create new effects….for instance Pen AND Watercolour or Charcoal AND INK. I also have some guest tutors who come in and teach their specialist subjects such as printmaking, embroidery, needlefelting. 

I have a specialist craft tutor who does all sorts of amazing crafts including: needlefelt, Lino print, mono print. 

If you are having trouble logging into your Create account you can try any of the following steps:

We also have gift vouchers for all our courses so you can give the gift of creating to a lucky recipient. 

Once you buy the course you will receive an email explaining how to redeem your voucher. 

For a video course or a studio weekly or one off  you will recieve a unique coupon which the recipient will need to enter in at checkout. They will need to enter a credit/debit card details but they will not be charged, providing the voucher covers the full cost of the course. 

For one to one courses, you will receive a voucher in the email to give to the recipient. They will then need to contact me to arrange the lesson. 

One to one vouchers and course vouchers are valid for 6 months. 

I tend to work in a series on one offs as I like a fresh start each week. Exposure to lots of different images, styles, media and techniques tends to mean that you always find something you love or like within a block of a few weeks. Some of my focussed classes like for instance a day watercolour class, gives you  time to focus on one thing specifically.
